Chief John Cutter III Obituary

Chief John S. Cutter III, 86, resident of Grafton, passed away Sunday January 15, 2023 in the Ames Family Hospice Center after a long illness.

He was a graduate of Elyria High School. He was employed by Ridge Tool for 52years where he met his wife of 61 years, Helen E. Metzger. He retired as Supervisor for the Stock Room and Receiving Department. For 16 years he was a police officer, Lieutenant and then Captain for the Grafton Police Department. Then he joined the Grafton Village Fire Department for 40 years retiring as Fire Chief. He was a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and member of LaGrange Masonic Lodge No. 399. His hobbies included amateur radios,bluegrass music, especially music from Nu-Blu and photography. Meeting friends and family for coffee or lunch at Check Please was always a highlight of his day. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his daughters Laura Fildes (Jeff), Jeanne Wildenheim (Larry), granddaughter Rose Wildenheim, step granddaughter Lynda Amir(Dr. Hasan), his brother Robert Cutter, 3 step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephew.

Besides being preceded in death by his wife Helen he was also preceded in death by his parents John S. II and Elizabeth Cutter (Dick), his sister Elizabeth(Laren) Turner and sister in-law Debra Cutter(Steckler).

Per John's wishes, services will be held privately by his family.

The family would like to thank the staff at Danbury Assisted Living in North Ridgeville for the care and assistance they gave John.
