David Brest Jr. of Lagrange, Ohio, passed away on December 21 at the age of 73. He was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania and moved to Lorain in 1959. He graduated from Admiral King High School in 1964 and received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Utah State University in 1968. He served as a Captain and tank commander in the Army (173rd Airborne) in Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He lived in Grafton for many years, and served as a firefighter and paramedic in Grafton Township. Dave retired as a letter carrier from the US Postal Service. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Lagrange Masonic Lodge serving as a Past Master and LEO for the last 30 years. He was a lay leader and long time member of the Grafton United Methodist Church. He enjoyed geocaching, genealogy, and telling stories. Dave is survived by Brenda, his wife of 46 years, daughters Kim (JJ) Justice and Courtney (Travis) Elliott, granddaughters Alexandra and Megan, and nephews David and Jeff Cochrane of Arizona. Dave was preceded in death by his father, David Sr, his mother, Mabel, and his sister, Diane. A private funeral service will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. He will be buried with military honors and a Masonic service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Disabled Americans Veterans organization or the Grafton United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton.
