Dorothy McKee Buswell

… passed away at home on Oct 31, 2022, following a stroke.

She was born February 22, 1922, to Virtal and Stella (Eschke) McKee in Elyria. Dorothy graduated in 1939 from Elyria High School.. On October 18, 1941, she married Foster “Bud” Buswell. After spending a short time in California during WW2, the couple made their home in LaGrange where they operated a dairy farm.

In addition to being a farmer’s wife, Dorothy served as LaGrange Township Clerk for 27 years. During the 60s and 70s, she baked and decorated beautiful wedding cakes out of her home. An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed making crafts and worked with her husband to build several dollhouses. She was active in the Needlers group, she was a founding member of the Lorain County Genealogical Society and the LaGrange Historical Society. She compiled and self-published several works on local history and was frequently contacted by people who were seeking information on ancestors that had lived in Lorain County. Never afraid to attempt something new, she began to use a computer in her 60s and enjoyed using it to play games as well as for her research. She enjoyed word puzzles and could be a challenging opponent at most card games.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, in 2008; her brother Harold McKee of Elyria, OH; her half-sister Iva Lee Mann of Ironton, OH; and infant son Lyn.

She is survived by her children Jolyn Jackson of Wellington; Larry Buswell; Janice King of LaGrange; Diane Lockard of LaGrange; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great grandchildren.
