Dorothy M. Sanders

Dorothy M. Sanders (nee Carlin), 93, of Grafton, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at UH Cleveland following a short illness.She was born December 29, 1925 in Elyria and moved to Oberlin in her early teens, where she resided most of her life. Dorothy was a 1943 Oberlin High School graduate and also attended the Oberlin School of Commerce.She retired from Oberlin College in August of 2000, after 33 years of dedicated service. Prior to working at the College, she was employed as admitting clerk at Allen Memorial Hospital and as a cafeteria worker at the Oberlin FAA.She enjoyed many activities including bingo, crocheting, making wonderful soups, baking, (especially her delicious banana bread and jelly rolls), traveling and visiting Disney World, shopping at Goodwill, watching old western movies, reading, collecting porcelain dolls and stuffed animals, and listening to music ranging from Billy Vaughn and Glenn Miller, to hip hop and rap. She would never go without her daily root beer floats with chocolate ice cream. Her generous and loving ways will forever be remembered by all those she touched.She will be sadly missed by her son, Dennis Sanders (Zoe) of Elyria; and her daughters, Suzanne Overstreet (Roger) with whom she resided for the past three and a half years in Grafton; Lisa Walker of Oberlin; Janice Bailey (Philip) of Oberlin, where she lived prior to moving to Grafton; son-in-law, Thomas Sheffield of Wellington; 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Duane G. Sanders, on January 10, 1999; parents, Raymond and Rita Carlin (nee LeGere); daughter Rosemarie Sheffield on April 4, 2017 and brother, Charles Carlin on July 10, 1980.A private memorial service celebrating Dorothy's life will be held at a later date.
