George W. Burke, 76, of Grafton, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake, Ohio.
George was born September 18, 1942 in Elyria, Ohio and graduated in 1960 from Midview High School. He then served his country for 4 years in the U.S. Army with 18 months served in the Vietnam War. After the military George held employment with Abex in Elyria, Ohio, Larsons Foundry in Grafton, Ohio, and Commerce Delivery in LaGrange, Ohio.
George was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization and his hobbies included fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his love of 35 years and wife of 15 years, Anna Sauer-Burke; daughter, Robin Sauer; sons, Gary Sauer and Bryan Sauer; daughter in-law, Elizabeth Sauer (spouse to Gary Sauer);granddaughters, Samatha Behnke and Shelby Sauer; nephew-in-law, Greg Behnke (spouse to Samantha Behnke);grandson, Garrett Strobel; sister, Elaine DeGirolamo; brother-in-law, Dale DeGirolamo; niece, Amy DeGirolamo; nephew, Thomas DeGirolamo; and neice-in-law Ying DeGirolamo (spouse to Thomas DeGirolamo).
The family will receive friends Friday, June 28, 2019 at 11:00 am for a brief funeral service at the Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main Street, Grafton, Ohio, immediately followed with a memorial luncheon at the V.F.W. Post 3341, 783 Huron St, Grafton, OH 44044.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, Ames Family Hospice House, 30080 Hospice Way, Westlake, Ohio 44145-1077.
