Gwendolyn Benton Obituary

Gwendolyn Benton, age 94 of Grafton Township passed away Sunday January 13, 2019 in the Keystone Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. She was born March 3, 1924 in Scranton, Pennsylvania graduating from Technical High School in 194and employed by the Globe Department Store in Scranton. After marriage to Clarence Benton on January 31, 1945,they settled down in Beldon, Ohio.She reported local news for the Lorain Journal and the Rural Urban.She was payroll clerk for Servomation Ware Vending Company and took classes at Lorain County Community College.She was active as a cub scout den mother and a Brownie leader She was active in the PTA and as a room mother.She volunteered at the Office for Aging and at the North Ridgeville Senior Center.As a member of the Belden Methodist Church she sang in choir, taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superindent as well as be delegate for the annual Church Conference in Lakeside, Ohio.She became a member of the First Baptist Church in LaGrange, Ohio and again sang in the choir.She was past adjudunt and past commander of the Barbed Wire Buckeyes

(a local POW group) She was also a member of the American Legion Auxilary.She enjoyed playing piano, singing, reading, working crosswords,crocheting, traveling and family.She was preceded in death by her parentsEarl Donald Maconeghy and Frances "Bella" Maconeghy (Jones husband Clarence Irven Benton, Sr daughter Arabella Frances Benton grandson Jonathan Reimer Benton great granddaughter Amanda Michiru Sadowsky She is survived by sons Clarence Jr of Belden, Earl (Florence) of California daughter Evelyn (Eugene) of Wellington as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews Friends may call 3 to 5 PM Thursday January 17, 20and again prior to the 10:30 AM funeral service on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton.
