James N. Hosek, 78, of Grafton passed away on Friday May 10, 2024, surrounded by family. Preceded in death by his parents Norbert and Elizabeth (Betty) (nee Zeman) Hosek. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Cheryl (nee Salcius), and children Daniel (wife Erin) Hosek, Jeffrey Hosek, and Elizabeth (Libby) (husband Justin) Gray, brother John (wife Sharon) Hosek, sister Margaret Rajecki. His grandchildren are Sydney Hosek, Charlotte Hosek, Logan Hosek, Xavier Gray and Quinn Gray.
He was a graduate of Benedictine High School, Class of 1963, and began his professional career as a draftsman at Arthur G. McKee in 1964. He joined HWH Architects, Engineers, Planners, Inc. in 1968 and continued there through 1980 ultimately becoming a project engineer. He became a Licensed Professional Engineer in 1978 while attending Fenn College of Engineering, and also held a License in the State of California. In 1980 he became the Mechanical Engineering Department Head at Swisher-Zorn and Associates Inc. In 1989 he left to become the President and Founder of Protherm, Inc. a Mechanical Engineering firm based in the Cleveland Area.
He was a past committee chairman and treasurer for Boy Scout Troop 152 in Grafton. His passions included family travel, boating, fishing, camping, model railroading, pinochle, reading, and spending time with his extended family. He participated in youth and high school sports, and this fed his passion for Cleveland professional sports. He also loved his many dogs: Buffy, Shasta, Samantha, Mathilda, Magda, and Chloe. His favorite days were spent at his cottage in Portland, Ontario with family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on May 23, 2024, from 3-7pm at Duke Funeral Home, Inc. 1021 Main Street, Grafton, OH 44044. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Rockitout.org and mention boxer Cheryl Hosek as part of the donation.
