Jimmy Greathouse Obituary

Ephesians 6: 2-3  says: Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. As a family we are still honoring our mother’s wishes to bury our brother beside our father.

Jimmy Greathouse was born to Archie and Bureda Greathouse Feb. 10th 1941 in Wayland, Ky. He left this earthly home on April 26, 2019 but in return gained a Heavenly home instead. When us girls would ask him about his soul, he would always say “I took care of that a long time ago”.  In his last hours Jimmy would point up and say “HOME” and he would reach for Mom’s picture of a church. He was always writing scripture down and leaving it in all his drawers and chest.  His Bible stayed on his nightstand beside his bed till he took his last breath.

Jimmy leaves behind his daughter Patricia Lynn Warters and grandson, Joshua.  He also leaves his sisters and brothers: Barbara Ann Furr, Sally Jo Edwards, Gert Elliott, Archie Greathouse, Richard Greathouse, Forrest Greathouse, Eddie Greathouse, and Jerome Greathouse.  His siblings who preceded him in death are:  Bobby Greathouse, Clarence Greathouse, Beatrice Thornsberry, Johnny Greathouse, Joseph Greathouse, Tommy Greathouse, and Debra Lynn Cooper.

Jimmy loved to travel in his younger years. We can thank him for a lot of family films we have today. He loved to collect coins and he loved to eat. He inherited Mom and Dad’s love of pickled corn and soup beans like so many others in the family. He also left behind many “Jimmy” stories that I’m sure we will remember for a long time.

We are beyond sad!!!  Sally and I will miss his calls, his smile, his laugh, and his orneriness. He had us girls hopping but he was our brother that we felt we had to take care of.  One day Jimmy was being cantankerous.  Sally and I were so tired we just looked at each other and said, “We would leave but the Lord won’t let us”. We laughed.

Yes, it takes a village to raise a child and it took a village to be a caregiver.

I would like to thank our sisters, Sally and Barb for helping take care of our brother in whatever way we could. We leaned on each other and never let one another down with support and encouragement.  We spoiled him with care then we leaned on one another for support and God drew us closer in return.

A very special mention to our brothers Archie and Jerome for their visits and support. Archie coming from Medina and Jerome, his wife, Tina, and family made trips from Ky. to comfort or bring what Jimmy needed. I am thankful for the respectful financial support from our brothers Eddie, Archie, and Richard to help bury our brother in need.  I am beyond

words for the care, respect, and special attention that Duke Funeral Home has provided for our family.  Thank you all!

Yes, it takes a village to raise a child and it took a village to care for Jimmy.

Mom would always say “I am so proud of my family”. Well Mom, you certainly can because in the end we are all family still. Graveside services will be held Tuesday April 30, 2019 at 11 AM in the Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven , Ohio.
