Joann C. Opfer (nee Gessner), 89, a longtime resident of Lagrange, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 15, 2023, at Wesleyan Village in Elyria. She was born May 14, 1934, in Westlake, to the late Wilson and Helen (nee Jenkins) Gessner.
She was a 1952 graduate of Eaton High School. Joann was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, traveling with her husband across the 48 contiguous United States, and visiting with children and grandchildren.
Joann is survived and deeply missed by her loving husband of 67 years, Glenn; daughter, Debbie (Jim); daughter-in-law, Twila; grandchildren, Heather (Walter), Holly (Chad), James, Jr., Justin, and Nathan; as well as 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, Joann was preceded in death by her son, Dan; and her brothers, Wayne and George.
The family would like to thank and express our gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Wesleyan Village, and the caregivers and staff at Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care in Valley View for their care, concern, and support for the last several months.
Per Joann's pre-arrangements, there will be no service. She will be cremated, and burial will occur at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery near Seville, as the spouse of a USMC veteran.
Duke Funeral Home in Grafton is entrusted with all arrangements, and the family would also like to thank them for their care and assistance during this difficult time of loss and grief.
