John David Adkins, age 76, of Litchfield, Ohio died peacefully on January 22, 2023. John was born on October 19, 1946, in Logan, WV, to the late William and Rosa Henson Adkins. Beginning at age 19, John served his country for almost 4 years with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam conflict, an experience he carried with him his entire life.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon H. (nee Dickerson); his three children, David (Rebecca Meehan) Adkins, Scott (Tracie) Adkins, and Jessica (Donald) White; his grandchildren, Kristin (Josh) Marshall, John Milam, Karra (Christian) Cline, Olivia Adkins and Mitchell Adkins. John is survived by his sisters Doris Browning, Erma Rocarah, Goldie Kelly, and Judy Adkins. He is the dear uncle and cousin of many. He is preceded in death by his siblings Roy Adkins, William Adkins, Edward Adkins, Carolyn Canterbury, Susie Adams, Bertha Adkins, and James Adkins.
John was the co-founder, with his wife Sharon, of Enterprise Christian Academy, a K-12 Christian school operating in Cleveland, Ohio from the late 1970s to 2004. He was a minister for many years at Enterprise Full Gospel Church. With his church, he helped to orchestrate dinners and events to help the homeless and underserved people in Cleveland. John positively influenced the lives of many.
A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, January 27, 2023, at Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Ohio. Friends may call on the family starting at 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Brunswick, Ohio.
