Karen Dixon, 86, of Elyria passed away while on hospice care in Elyria, Ohio on February 12, 2025.
She was born on April 4, 1938 in Ashtabula, Ohio to Alma & Hayes Keyes the oldest of nine children. Karen graduated from Harbor High School in Ashtabula and went on to earn a master’s degree in social work from Cleveland State University. She was a loving & devoted wife to her husband Verlin of 64 years and a caring mother to her son John and daughter Sharon. Karen lived a life filled with tremendous passion for her family and compassionate service towards others in her professional life as a licensed social worker. Karen devoted her life to helping others, using her well-honed counseling skills to better the lives of thousands of people through the years in the Cuyahoga and Lorain County area. Karen was an avid reader, a lover of travel, a wonderful gift-giver and a devoted member of New Life Wesleyan Church in Columbia Station, Ohio.
Karen is survived by her husband Verlin Dixon, her son John (Katherine) of Grafton, daughter Sharon (Robert) Skeens of Grafton, grandchildren Courtney, Elizabeth, Chelsea, Thomas and Zachary and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Gordon, Theodore and Thomas Keyes and sisters Becky Whitehead, Evelynn Fleischmann and Vicki Stevenson. Preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers Daniel and David and daughter-in-law Janet Dixon.
Visitation will be held Tuesday February 18, 2025 from 11 AM until the time of service at 12 PM at New Life Wesleyan Church, 11149 W River Rd, Columbia Station, Ohio. A private burial will take place at The Columbia Township Cemetery in Columbia Station.
