Kay C. Carmel,( nee Carpenter ) age 79 of Grafton passed away Monday June 24, 2019 following a long illness.She was born November 28, 1939 in Elyria and had lived her entire life in the North Eaton and Grafton areas. She was a 1958 graduate of Midview High School and had attended Bowling Green State University and Bell & Howell Accounting School. Kay performed bookkeeping services for numerous Lorain County businesses and spent her early years working in the family business at W.C. Carpenter Greenhouses. She was also a notary public and a foster mother. She was an avid supporter of the Grafton United Methodist Church, Wounded Warriors, VFW, Boys Town and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.She enjoyed reading, gardening and music. Kay is survived by her husband Paul whom she married May 8, 1984. daughter Becky Stefanik of Grafton and son Wesley Smith of Elyria. Survivors also include sisters Joan Dayton of Hartville, Ohio, Lynne Young of Lititz , PA, Judith Carpenter of Elyria and by brothers James Carpenter of North Eaton, 5 Grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Wesley & Helen Carpenter and by her brother Clive. Friends may call in the Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton on Sunday June 30, 2019 from 6PM until services at 8 PM. with Pastor Charlie Duke of the Lakeview Freewill Baptist Church, officiating. A graveside service will be held on Monday July 1st, 2019 at 11 AM in the Nesbett Cemetery, Grafton Twp.
