Marguerite McAvena Obituary

Marguerite L. “Mrs. Mac” McAvena (née: Campbell ), 99 years of age, was a resident at Welcome Nursing Home of Oberlin, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, August 20 2025.

She was born October 2 1925, in Oberlin, Ohio. She lived in Carlisle Township her entire life. She graduated from Elyria High School in 1943 with high honors. Marguerite received her license from the State Board of Cosmetology on June 30 1955. She was a cosmetologist for many years. Marguerite and her husband “Mac” started Mac’s General Merchandise in 1954. Her son Dale purchased the business in 1990 which became Mac’s Auto-Truck Electric in Oberlin, Ohio. Marguerite worked along side her son Dale as bookkeeper till she was 96 years old.

Marguerite devoted her life to her family and friends. She loved flowers, traveling, and baking for the holidays. Her specialties were chocolate fudge, snowball cookies, and her famous fruitcake. Her cake was one of the families favorites. The family could not get enough of her fruitcakes as they were the absolute best! Thank God she passed down her recipes.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty three years Richard A. (Mac) McAvena (December 15 2001);
they were married on July 6 1948.

Brothers- Dan J. Campbell Jr., (Marie) née Linden;
George Campbell, (Lil) née Weigel;
Sister- Eileen ( Henry) Thierry

She is survived by her children, Dennis (Kathi) McAvena
Of Brooklyn N.Y., Dale T. (Deborah) McAvena, of Wellington, Ohio, Ricky (Sandy) their two “boys” (dogs) Kimber and Browning) McAvena of Whitehall, Montana;
her Grandchildren; Michael (Soo Choi) McAvena of Chicago IL. , Patrick (Amanda) McAvena of Brooklyn N.Y., Brian (Catherine) McAvena of Homerville, Ohio, and Brandon (Ashley) McAvena of Wellington, Ohio;
Marguerite had five great grandchildren; Ryker McAvena, Oaklee J McAvena, Wyatt McAvena, Klara McAvena, and Emilia McAvena;

Her co-worker Sally Killion, who became a dear and trusted friend, thank you so much for all your help. Your support was and is much appreciated.

Several nieces and nephews.

A warm thank you to Welcome Nursing Home and Staff.
Her family is grateful for the excellent and loving care she received during her stay at the nursing home. Many of you there became part of her family.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St , Grafton, Ohio.

A Private graveside service was held at Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin, Ohio.
