Patrick Dale McFadden, age 78, of Shelby, OH, passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, while surrounded by loving family members at Mansfield General Hospital after a short battle with COVID 19.
Patrick was born on June 10, 1945, in Oberlin, Ohio, to the late William and Lillian McFadden. After Patrick graduated from Keystone High School in 1963, he went on to study Education at The Ohio State University.
After graduating with a degree in education, he started a 31-year career at Shelby Senior High School teaching math and science. Patrick continued his education and was awarded a master’s degree in education from Ashland College for the development of the first computer programming class offered at Shelby Senior High.
In 1962, Patrick met Sharon Buckingham in high school as both were involved with the school’s marching band and became high school sweethearts. Patrick and Sharon went on to have two sons, Michael and Kevin.
In 1999, Patrick retired from teaching and spent his time playing golf, travelling, and researching family history. Patrick enjoyed taking time to appreciate nature and the wonderful sights it provided. He was always busy with projects as the family handyman.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon; his two sons, Michael (Kimberly) of Etna, OH and Kevin (Cherie) of Bloomville, OH; three brothers, William of Otto, NC, Phillip of Seaside, OR, and Steven (Debbie) of Canton, NY; and a grandson Nicholas (Makayla) of Blacklick, OH.
Visitation will be held at Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main Street, Grafton, OH 44044, on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, from 11:00 – 12:30. Funeral services will follow immediately after visitation with burial at River Road Cemetery on Indian Hollow Road.
