Phyllis Haynes Obituary

Phyllis Louise (Bond) Haynes, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went on to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the Elms Retirement Village, Wellington Ohio. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on Sept. 11, 1932. She would have been 90 years old this year. She was the daughter of the late Roy (Vernon) and Alice (Loveland) Bond. She graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School. She graduated from Kent State University then completed her Physical Therapy studies at DT Watson School of Physiatrics in Pennsylvania. Phyllis and her husband Oden lived in Maryland for years. All three of her children were born in Maryland. However, Ohio was calling them home to Lorain County where she felt most at home.

Phyllis was a member of several United Methodist Churches in the East Ohio Conference. She loved cooking, especially pies. She loved any and all strawberry milkshakes. She enjoyed quilting, belonging to many quilting groups. However, her heart and joy were singing soprano in any way that she could. She loved to sing in a multitude of church choirs and really enjoyed when she could sing with any live performance group. Phyllis and family joined with Oden in each of his United Methodist pastorates as they served many charges in the East Ohio Methodist Church Conference. She was always a member of the church choir and the Annual Conference choir and her ministry of music was her message. She also traveled thought out England in 1989 singing at several churches.

She loved to play the piano. She taught all of her children how to play. When she moved into the Elms Retirement Village, she would play the piano and sing for hours upon hours.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Oden Haynes, January 7, 2014. She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn (Ange) Turiano of Melbourne, Florida and Judy (Wayne) Cooper of Charlotte, North Carolina, her children Steven Haynes of Wellington Ohio, Sharon Holsapple (Harry), of Forest Grove, Oregon and Carol Marvel (Fred) of Cheswold, Delaware.
