Ronald Wayne Moss

Ronald W. Moss, 59, of South Amherst, departed this life on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at Mercy Health Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a sudden illness. He was born March 23, 1962 in Elyria and was a long-time resident of South Amherst.  

Though challenged since birth with cerebral palsy and other limitations, Ron proudly graduated from Lincoln West High School in Cleveland in 1984. Afterward he spent several years working through the Murray Ridge Oberlin Workshop in meaningful capacities that made him feel valued and that provided the social opportunities he craved and enjoyed. Fiercely independent and never wanting pity, at the height of his capabilities Ron navigated a large power wheelchair in his work and in his life using customized headgear, and he cherished that capability and the independence it afforded him. Ron also documented his life and typed his autobiography over several years using other customizations, channeling a life-defining perseverance that inspired many around him.     

Ron was a recognized figure in South Amherst, frequently outside in the driveway at his home with a ready smile welcoming neighbors and visitors and watching the travels and activities of the community. Friendly and gregarious, he loved being out and about to shop and sightsee, to attend concerts and events, and to interact with the world at-large. Ron was also a baptized member of GrowPoint Church in Amherst, and he loved to worship and fellowship with congregants.  

Ron is survived by his brother Daniel and sister-in-law Kelli of Amherst, and his nephews Nathan Moss of Westlake and James Moss of Amherst. He also leaves to fond remembrance many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins who helped provide care for him or visited with him throughout his life.   

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Claire Moss, beside whom he will be laid to rest at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Grafton.   

Family and friends may call Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 5 until 7 PM at Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main Street, Grafton, OH. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 19, 2021 at 10 AM at Mt.
