“Weng Lock Kang, 78, of Elyria, Ohio, passed away peacefully of natural causes on December 22, 2025. Born on August 2, 1947, in Penang, Malaysia, Weng Lock’s life journey took him far from his roots but never away from the values and warmth that defined his character.
A man of humility and quiet strength, Weng Lock was known for his modesty, kindness, generosity, and gentle sense of humor. Though a man of few words, his presence was deeply felt by all who knew him. An esteemed and well-loved professor at the University of Toledo, he devoted his career to nurturing young minds and inspiring excellence through his dedication and integrity.
Outside of his academic life, Weng Lock found peace in gardening, tending lovingly to his plants with the same care he gave to his students and friends. In retirement, his mornings were happily spent at Panera Bread near his office, a simple pleasure that connected him to his community even after leaving the classroom.
Weng Lock is survived by his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. There will be no memorial service in the U.S.; he will be cremated, and his ashes returned to Malaysia as he wished to rest among his family. He lived well, laughed often, and loved deeply. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched. He will be remembered with love.
