William A. Haight (“Bill”) passed away September 27, 2022, surrounded by “his ‘4’ girls” after a long illness. Born April 15, 1950, in Beacon, NY, Bill moved to Ottawa, IL as a child. An avid and talented bugler, Bill was a member of the Marquette Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps until graduation from Ottawa High School in 1968. Later that year, Bill enlisted in the Navy, active for 4 years and served 2 tours in Vietnam in the Brown Water Navy.
Bill met his love, Carol A. Young, while he was at Signalman school in Newport, RI in 1969. They married on September 23, 1972, and lived in Hyde Park, NY for almost 25 years, before moving to Wellington, OH. Bill worked at Culligan for about 30 years holding multiple positions in a few states, and then worked at The Plumbing Source in Bedford Heights, OH until his death.
A proud Vietnam Veteran, Bill will be remembered by those close to him as a selfless, witty, honorable and fun-loving person that was a loyal family man and loved music – especially drum corp. Bill is survived by his loving wife Carol; mother Rose Haight of Beacon, NY; sister Cindy (Bill) Petry of Wappingers Falls; Sister-in-Law Sharon (Bob) Gaew of Bridgewater, CT; daughters Carolyn (Brad) Legg of Brighton Twp, OH, Crista (Jake) Knight of Columbia Station, OH, Catherine “Casey” (Brian) Hurst of LaGrange, OH. He is also survived by grandchildren Beau, Hunter, Brady, Bryce, Baen, Brock and Skyler, along with multiple step grandchildren, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Bill was predeceased by his father, William C. Haight (“Bill”) of Beacon, NY.
Friends may call in the Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton on Monday October 3, 2022 from 5 until services at 7 PM with Father John Seabold, pastor, of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church officiating. Private burial will be in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio.
